DeLorean & KITT dimensions — venue access and ramp guide

When you book the DeLorean Time Machine or KITT for an event, the most common question we get from venue managers and event planners isn’t “how much does it cost?” — it’s “will it actually fit through that door?”

So here’s everything you need to know about the dimensions, weight and access requirements of both cars, in one place.

A couple of things worth flagging straight away:

• KITT is longer than the DeLorean by about 67 cm. If your space is tight on length, KITT needs more room than the DeLorean.
• Both cars sit very low (115-125 mm ground clearance) — lower than a typical modern car. This is where venue access usually gets interesting.

How the cars arrive

We trail both cars to events on a professional twin-axle trailer behind our tow vehicle (pictured above). The combined length of the tow vehicle + trailer + car is around 10 metres total.

To safely position the trailer, unload the car, and manoeuvre into your setup spot, we need a clear staging area of roughly four to five normal car lengths — around 20-25 metres of straight, level space where we can pull up, lower the trailer ramps and drive the car off.

If your venue has a service yard, car park, or quiet side street that fits that footprint, we’re set. Underground car parks, narrow alleys with sharp turns, and pedestrianised streets can be done, but need planning in advance.

Inclines, ramps and stairs

Because of the low ground clearance, neither car can handle:

• Steps or kerbs more than 10-12 cm tall without ramps
• Concrete ramps steeper than about 7° for the DeLorean — the front bumper will scrape and damage. KITT’s slightly higher front clears a tiny bit more, but only marginally.
• Sharp transitions from flat to incline — for example, the lip where a driveway meets a steep car-park ramp

We always carry our own set of steel-and-timber ramps on the trailer, which let us cross small kerbs, the gap between trailer and ground, and gentle steps. They’re built for this job and we use them at most events.

But our standard ramps aren’t designed to bridge full staircases or steep raised stages. If your venue has multiple steps to climb, a raised platform, or an entrance with a steep approach angle, we may need to source additional ramps locally, or we may need to position the car at a different spot that doesn’t require crossing those obstacles. The bespoke set in the photo below was custom-built for one such venue.

Venue surveys — when and why

For weddings and corporate events at venues we’ve worked at before (most major Spanish and Portuguese estates, hotels and convention centres), we already know the access constraints and can confirm logistics in a single email.

For venues we haven’t been to — especially private homes, listed buildings, sports stadiums, schools, or any space with raised floors, multiple steps or narrow entry — we offer a venue survey. We come out before your event date with measuring tools, photograph the access points, confirm where the trailer can stage, and document any access challenges in writing. You get a short report with photos and a clear “yes / yes with X ramps / no, here’s why” verdict.

Survey pricing depends on distance from our base in Pilar de Horadada (Alicante) and the time the visit needs — typically €150–€400 for venues within Spain. The survey cost is deducted from the final booking quote if you go ahead.

If you’re planning an event where access is going to be tight, it’s much better to know in advance than to find out on the day. A surprise step or low door is the only thing that can stop us getting the car into position once we’ve arrived.

Bottom line

The DeLorean and KITT are big, heavy, low-slung cars built for cruising — not for climbing. They want flat ground or gentle ramps, room to manoeuvre, and clear headroom for doors. Most venues handle this with no issues at all.

When yours doesn’t, we’d rather find out two weeks before the event over a coffee on site than two hours before showtime with the car still on the trailer outside.
